Today, we are living in hauntological times: a stagnant period in which the past is being plundered and it seems impossible that the future will ever arrive.
Eh I think the elites/upper class have surpassed cultural dope and continue to enjoy and foster (with their wealth) high cultural. Also some of the cultural elements you list (Netflix, Apple News etc) are primarily consumed by the middle class. It’s this middle/lower class wanting to change the system but also emulate the elites who are stuck in the cultural dope wasteland.
There are resisters and those who continue to fight at great peril (Julian assange for example) so it’s not like there’s NO counterculture.
